The grapes for this Petite Sirah are sourced from one very small vineyard here in Lodi owned by Barbara Huecksteadt. Siting in deep sandy soils, the vines are regularly water stressed and yield beautifully intense fruit.

The Huecksteadt vineyard is unique in it's stature. The vines tower at over 6ft tall and nearly that wide. Yet these giants yield some of the smallest and most intense Petite Sirah clusters of any fields we've worked with. Because of this height, the field is also one of the more challenging to pick, requiring tall crews and long days. All of this extra effort is worth it.
Grapes are fermented in small bins and gently hand pressed to minimize the extraction of harsh tannins while retaining the maximum of delicate fruit aromas. Post winemaking Petite Sirah always does best with extended barrel age, somewhere between 14-18 months.
The resulting wine is a structural powerhouse. A glass staining inky black on the nose its a delicate basket of black fruits and subtle sweet spices. Ripe black cherry and blackberry invite you to extended aromas of oak, cedar, vanilla and a long soft finish of dark chocolately round chewy tannins.
