More info

This is one of our earliest harvesting fields, and 2014 was even earlier, just a hint into September. For  this higher elevation vineyard, fruit and sugar were perfectly balanced and very clean fruit.

Following our typical process, we quickly moved to hand sorting, removing any underdeveloped, damaged or overripe fruit followed by a gentle desteming to fermentation bins. When harvest allows, we like to give the destemed fruit a couple days of cold soaking to lock in some of the complex aromas and color. After cold soaking, we innoculate and begin the 7-9 day fermentation process of analaysis and lots of manual “punch downs” before finally pressing off and barrel aging.

On the nose, you’re first introduced to bright fresh fruits of marionberry,  blackberry & cherry lingering along with subtle layers of vanilla, spice & toast. On the palate the wine opens in juicy, vivid black fruits and a full mouth-feel finishing in just the right amount of soft fruit, sweet spices, dark chocolate and firm, round tannins.

Our first vintage from the Fischer vineyard. I can remember the first time driving out to it and wondering how a trailer of grapes was going to make it down the narrow road. After passing through a long stretch uphill of scrub oak and small pines you arrive to the top of the hill and the small valley opens up with the vineyard stretching out. It’s a beautiful place.

The vines are even more beautiful. Head trained and immaculately manicured, the fruit ripens early and is very consistently balanced with acid, fruit and sugar. We’re looking forward to keeping this vineyard on our permanent rotation.
