2018 Primitivo

2018 Primitivo, Fisher Vineyard - Amador County

Vintage Notes:

The Fisher vineyard is situated near the end of a mountain road above Jackson in Amador County. Working with mountain fruit takes quite a bit of extra care to not over extract some of the rougher tannins that can reside in the skins and seeds.

For this vintage, Jeremy opted for a younger planting at the very top of the hill with full southern sun exposure. The bright red clay hillside strained the vines with both soil and limited impact of water, resulting in a grape crop that ripened quickly and yielded intensely aromatic and densely flavored fruit.

Cold soaked for one day before inoculating and fermented in a single stainless tank, we were able to minimize the transfers and maintain the tannins. Additionally, we were able to extract as much color and body as possible. Aged for over two years, this wine settled into a spectacular vintage.

Aged 27 months in 30% Medium Plus American Oak

Tasting Notes:

On the nose dark plummy jam, black cherry and cocoa, perfumey with notes of dried spices and potpourri. On the finish, big, rich tannins unfold into lingering plush fruit, vanilla and toasty barrel oak.
