I'm not sure why I like this Italian Varietal.. But I do. A lot! Perhaps it's the strangeness of grapes that have very light color during fermentation only to darken in the barrel. Perhaps it's the the big, unfriendly tannins in its early aging that make me want to cozy up and coddle it. No, it's the crazy depth and complexity of the wine as it ages in the bottle - nothing really compares. As time goes by the aromatics shift from lively red fruit, to depths of strawberry, dried orange peel and rose petal. The agressive tannins become silky and long. It's just a constant progression of an interesting wine.
Typical to the varietal there's a layering of floral complexity with the fruit, not honeysuckle but more rose petal and citrus. On the palate, the bold tannins build and support the broadness of the wine. One of our favorites to pair with your Spaghetti in red sauce or layered Lasagna.
Aged nearly 30 months in barrel - micro-lot release -- only 69 cases produced!
What's a micro lot? Micro lots are very small productions typically of single varietals that we determined early on have some extra special or interesting qualities. We pay more attention to them to produce an exceptional wine in limited quantities.
