2022 Aglianico

Clements Hills

Vintage Notes:

This is one of those alluring Italian varietals that can carry so much expression and will make completely different wines region to region and even winemaker to winemaker. It’s beautiful to me because along with big red wine tannin it carries a floral element on the nose that just seems to take to another level. Naturally when I found a vineyard around the corner from the winery I knew that it was time to try my hand at making wine from it. It typically ripens mid-late September in big clusters similar to Grenache. At the winery, we treat it like our other reds, destemming and fermenting in 1/2 ton bins with many hours of hand punch downs.

This is our 2nd vintage and I think it’s even better than the previous. Bold aromas of black cherry, dried cranberry, cracked pepper, earth and dried flowers. The palate showcases flavors of rich berry pie and nutmeg spice, framed by bright acidity and robust tannins that lead to a lingering toasty sweet oak finish.

Tasting Notes:

Easily one of the most intensely aromatic and tannic wines in our cellar.
