2022 Nebbiolo

Clement Hills - Lodi

Vintage Notes:

A long ride into the foothills ended at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Small and unassuming, no menu, no choices. The chef cooked beside the table and you ate; the wine was poured and you drank. This is where I was introduced to Nebbiolo. It wasn’t the rarest bottle, but its ethereal layers of spice, fruit, and brash tannin unfolded through the meal.

Years later, I found a grower right in our backyard in Clements Hills. Nebbiolo takes time to come into its own—starting just darker than rosé, then slowly deepening as simple fruit gives way to the layered character that hooked me long ago.

Our 2022 aged 42 months in barrel before bottling, time needed to knit the fruit and soften the tannins. A classic Old World style beautiful garnet color and true varietal character. Floral, earthy, and tea-driven notes are complimented by complex dried orange and strawberry layers that continue to unfold as the wine opens in the glass. Dry with lingering notes of tea, dried fruit and spice followed by surpisingly firm tannins and soft toasty oak.
