2023 Budbreak Red Blend v7

Our Bordeaux inspired blend is one of our favorites to build in the cellar. Each of the component wines always seem to just merge into a better an more beautiful version of themselves. We’ve come to introduce this wine in celebration of “Budbreak”, this is the period in the vineyard when the dormant vines begin to come back to life. The small bumps on the vines swell before bursting open with leaves and new canes. This period signifies the beginning of spring and optimism for the coming harvest.

VINEYARD:
The Cabernet Sauvignon from the Clements Hills AVA is the backbone of this blend, bringing tannic structure, dark fruit, and complex perfumey aromas.
 The Cabernet Franc is farmed at the corner of HWY 88 & Victor rd, just on the way out to the winery. This older vineyard is naturally restrained and a perfect mix of herbatiousness and fruit.
Velvety tannins and juiciness is brought forth from the Merlot from the Smith vineyard in Lodi. This vineyard always performs and is great to release on its own or blend in.
 To add a youthfulness to the extensive oak aged complexity and emphasize the concentration of big dark fruit, we added just a touch of Pirie vineyard Malbec located just up the road in the very hilly Borden Ranch AVA.
