What happens when you pick Zinfandel early? We decided to find out by harvesting one lot of our estate Zinfandel at just 21.5° Brix (typical harvest is around 26–27°). Eight months in neutral oak barrels softened the wine without adding noticeable oak character, allowing the fruit to remain front and center. The earlier harvest preserves incredible freshness, vibrant natural acidity, and lower alcohol while maintaining a surprisingly lush texture. A small addition of Petite Sirah lifts the fruit even further, adding just a touch more richness and depth.
The result is an exceptionally vibrant wine with vivid aromas of cherry, boysenberry, and fresh blue fruits. The palate is bright and energetic yet wonderfully supple, finishing with silky texture, refreshing acidity, and pure, expressive fruit.
