2025 Grüner Veltliner

Stainless Steel Fermented

Vintage Notes:

A First for Jeremy Wine Co.

I’ll admit—Grüner Veltliner wasn’t a varietal I had on my radar. But a summer afternoon paddling the Mokelumne River with a friend and fellow winemaker convinced me to give it a shot. The vineyard, carefully farmed by LangeTwins, sits in a small pocket of lowland right up against the river—so close to our downtown tasting room that it’s probably just a mile away as the crow flies. The river provides a unique cooling effect that helps preserve the vibrant acidity and fruit-forward character of this traditionally cool-climate grape.

While Grüner Veltliner is relatively unknown in the U.S., it’s a workhorse varietal in Europe, particularly in Austria, where it’s known for its versatility, producing everything from easy-drinking, fresh wines to rich, age-worthy expressions. Its naturally high acidity and vibrant flavor profile make it an ideal food-pairing wine, especially with dishes that are notoriously hard to pair—think artichokes, asparagus, or Asian cuisine.

In the U.S., Grüner is still a relative newcomer, with only about 450–500 acres currently under cultivation. Plantings are primarily found in California, Oregon, and New York, as winemakers discover the grape’s potential in cooler growing regions. Despite its limited acreage, Grüner’s appeal is growing steadily, and it’s exciting to bring this unique varietal to our lineup.

At the Winery

We treated these grapes with the same care as all our white varietals. The fruit was gently pressed, cutting off the press at lower pressures to avoid extracting any harsh or bitter notes. After inoculation, the wine fermented until dry in stainless steel tanks over the course of nearly a month. Somehow, this varietal manages to strike a perfect balance—light as a feather yet broad and deep on the palate—while delivering complex layers on the nose.
