The Understudy

Finally the student is the teacher in this new release: The Understudy. While Primitivo is typically back stage to its more well know cousin Zinfandel, in this wine the Primitivo was telling us “this is my time to shine!” A blend of 75% Primitivo & 25% Zinfandel, the resulting wine is an epic expression of elegantly aged Primitivo with Zinfandel pulling a supporting roll.

Dark and brooding with aromas of black cherry and plum sauce are complimented by black pepper, caramel and macadamia nut. On the palate, licorice, dried fruit, sweet nutmeg and spice from extended oak aging, firm and structured tannins, finishing softly with a balanced acidity.

Aged 21-45 months, 30% Medium and Medium Plus Toast French and American Oak.
